Holiday Hope Campaign
Did you know that there are 10 women and 18 children staying in the Barrie shelter right now? They are staying here tonight because they are afraid for their safety and the safety of their children. Just imagine for a moment that a mother has arrived in the middle of the night with just the clothes on her and her son’s backs. No time to retrieve any belongings in the quick escape. A pattern of abuse from her partner has been steadily increasing for some time now and it got to a point where it’s safer to leave than to stay. Barrie City Police responds to a noise complaint and quickly determines the risk to the woman and her child. They offer to bring her to the shelter to get help immediately and make invaluable connections to resources which will help her rebuild her and her son’s lives. You may not know this but Barrie City Police respond to an average of 100 domestic violence calls every month. Violence against women is an epidemic in Barrie and around the world. It happens in every income level, age group, culture, geographic area and racial group.”
